AssetsTrail uses passive RFID to track assets and documents automatically. Smart RFID labels are attached to any item that needs to be tracked. Smart RFID readers then are able to identify the items using Radio Frequency signals. The latest RFID reader technology enables tracking of items throughout a room, office or building using low-cost, long-range rfid label tags. The latest tags and readers can reliably read and locate tagged items and know when an item has been moved and where it has been moved to. AssetsTrail has an interactive AssetsTrail Manager DashBoard that tracks and displays the location of all tagged items. The AssetsTrail Manager Dashboard displays maps of the locations where the tagged items reside. Alerts can be dynamically displayed and sent via email when the location of an important item has changed.

AssetsTrail is a rich enterprise web based system built on the Visual Studio 2008, NET framework 3.5 development platform. AssetsTrail maintains its data using Microsoft SQL Server 2008. Microsoft BizTalk Server 2009 RFID is being used as the framework which manages the innovative device management and event processing platform at the edge of the enterprise. It is designed to provide a scalable, extensible platform for development, deployment, and management of rich RFID and sensor solutions. BizTalk RFID allows AssetsTrail to effectively interface with a broad range of software and hardware components from independent software vendors (ISVs) and independent hardware vendors (IHVs) to build enterprise applications. Biztalk along with AssetsTrail uses the Microsoft Windows Server System and is supported on the Microsoft Windows Server 2003/2008, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 / 2008, Windows Vista and Windows XP operating systems.
